No. 10 Ladycats sweep Saginaw to clinch co-District 6-5A championship

Three Aledo hitters finished with double digits in kills to lead the state-ranked No. 10 Ladycats to a convincing 25-14, 25-11, 25-17 victory over Saginaw in the District 6-5A volleyball finale Tuesday night at Saginaw.

The win, coupled with Boswell's win over Eaton, gives the Ladycats (35-8) and No. 12 Boswell identical 13-1 records. Since the two teams split a pair of games the Ladycats and Lady Pioneers will share the 6-5A title.

The Ladycats will assume the district's No. 1 seed in the Class 5A playoffs. Aledo will face Denison, the fourth-place team from District 5-5A, in the bi-district playoffs at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, at Denton High School.

Aledo senior hitter Maddie Goings recorded a match-high 15 kills, senior middle Emily Smith added 11 and senior hitter Brecken Roquemore finished with 10.

Ladycats senior setter Erin Weiss produced a match-high 41 assists, and junior libero Sydney Casey registered a match-high 24 digs. Weiss added 14 digs and Goings finished with 12 digs.

The Ladycats junior varsity swept Saginaw, 25-6, 25-11 to finish as the undefeated District 6-5A champions with a perfect 14-0 record.

Aledo's freshman team swept the Lady Riders 25-14, 25-6 to finish 10-4 in district play.
