Morris twins Gracie, Graydon, win respective 6-5A cross country races; Bearcats advance to boys' regional meet as team

Aledo freshmen twins Gracie Morris and Graydon Morris each won their respective races Friday morning during the District 6-5A Cross Country Meet at Central Park in White Settlement.

Graydon Morris and senior Harrison Tillman - who placed second overall - paced a second-place team finish for the Bearcats, who will advance to  next week's regional meet in Lubbock along with Gracie Morris.

The top 10 individual finishers at the district meet advance to the regional meet, and the top three teams also advance to the regional meet.

Gracie Morris finished with a time of 18:47.72. Eva Mora of Saginaw finished second with a time of 19:08.71.

"I wanted to get off to a fast start and I did," Gracie Morris said. "When I got to the hills I accelerated to give myself some more space between myself and the girls in second place. I am not really pleased with my time, but I am excited to win the race and advance to regionals."

Graydon Morris finished with a time of 15:01. 95, with teammate Tillman placing second, crossing the finish line at 16:02.26. Aledo had three boys finish in the top six as Avery Tilley finished fifth with a time of 16:44.02.

"I have never had a boy and a girl finish in first place at the same district cross country meet," Aledo head coach Stan Reid said. "Not only are they district champs, but Gracie and Graydon are freshmen so they will also win the district's Newcomer Award. I am proud of them, proud of Harrison and proud of our boys team for getting out to regionals."

Other Aledo boys who qualified for the regional meet include Reece Harr (17:42.75), Trevor Connelly (17:45.08), Cooper Goggins (17:52.55) and Richard Reynolds (18:30.92).

Northwest won the boys race and Azle finished third. Eaton placed fourth, followed by Boswell, Chisholm Trail, Saginaw and Brewer.

Other Aledo girls' competing include Sydney Smith (21:52.47), Gracie Johnson (21:57.27), Hope Sims (22:14.88), Clara Fulsaas (22:53.1), Reagan Brown (23:24.48) and Sadie Cohen (23:27.73).

Saginaw finished first, followed by Boswell, Chisholm Trail, Northwest, Brewer, Azle, Eaton and Aledo.

The Class 5A regional cross country meet will be held Saturday, Oct. 29 at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock.
