Big match II: No. 16 Ladycats travel to No. 5 Boswell with District 6-5A lead on line

Posted

In their first District 6-5A match against state-ranked No. 5 Boswell, the No. 16 Aledo Ladycats were swept at home as the Pioneers took the undisputed lead in the district.

Not only was the defeat crushing, but it was also a letdown for the largest home crowd in Aledo volleyball history.

The two teams will square off again today with the district lead on the line.

The 8-1 Ladycats will travel to 9-0 Boswell to try and knot up the 6-5A race. The first serve is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Boswell High School.

Since the 25-19, 25-19, 25-14 loss at home on Sept. 16, the Ladycats have swept Eaton, Chisholm Trail, Brewer, Saginaw, No. 24 Northwest and Azle.

Boswell has also not dropped a single set while winning six straight district games.

“Our errors were the deciding factors in the first match,” Kathy Goings said after the first Boswell match. “We just had too many errors. Pretty plain and simple. We would get up a couple of points and then miss a serve, and that breaks your momentum.

“Boswell played very relaxed, but they were aggressive on the net. I felt like we were not nearly as aggressive as we normally are.”

Goings is hoping the pressure will be on the home team, and a huge crowd is expected as student bodies at both schools expect to be at the Boswell gym in full force.
