Individual in custody after “clown” threats made against Aledo ISD

From Aledo ISD Superintendent Dr. Derek Citty:

In the media the last couple of weeks there have been reports nationwide concerning “creepy clowns” making threats and scaring citizens. It was brought to light that threats were being made by a social media account against the school community of Aledo ISD. Administration conducted an investigation which led to the Aledo ISD Police Department taking an individual into custody.

On the afternoon of Oct. 5 at 3:53 p.m., Aledo High School was evacuated due to a threat that was received by campus administration shortly before that time. A search was conducted by the Aledo ISD Police Department, and no evidence of a threat was found. During the course of the evacuation, students were dismissed to go home for the day. At 4:24 p.m. all students and staff remaining were cleared to go back into the campus and all activities resumed as normal. Students and staff were safe at all times; there were no reported injuries.

There is no evidence that the threat received at Aledo High School, and ensuing evacuation on Oct. 5 was connected to these social media threats. Superintendent Dr. Derek Citty praised the efforts of AISD campus administration and the AISD Police Department for their work related to these investigations.

There are no known threats at this time. Students and staff are safe and continuing with their daily routines.
