Penny Elaine Tucker Mullens died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016, after a long-fought, courageous battle with metastasized breast cancer.
Penny was born in Fort Worth November 1954 to Chester and Nancy Tucker.
She attended all twelve years at Aledo Schools back when Aledo was a small town, and lived her entire life on the family’s property in Annetta. Her daughter recalls, “Running errands with Mom was like visiting friends since she was on a first-name basis with everyone from the bank president, to the post-master, to the grocer and general store owners, the gas station attendant, pharmacist, etc.” While the small town has changed almost unrecognizably, her small town friendliness didn’t. She was still making friends with people she would meet at the diner, and befriending the many “city folks” who migrated here.
After her marriage to Lawrence Bryan Mullens in 1972, she dedicated most of the next 44 years to the full-time rearing and education of her eight children. Her spare time was given to lavish hospitality, fervent prayer, and volunteering with various Christian ministries, including serving on the Board of Directors for the Pregnancy Help Center on Camp Bowie.
Penny is survived by her husband, Larry Mullens; children: Melissa (Nathan) Hawley of Redding, California; Melinda (Ryan) Atkinson of Charlotte, North Carolina; Miranda (Joshua) Maughan of Weatherford; Trey (Jessica) Mullens and Tucker (Erin) Mullens of Fort Worth; Megan (Matthew) Shannon, Taylor (Annaleigh) Mullens, and Trevor Mullens of Aledo; ten grandchildren; parents: Chester and Nancy Tucker of Aledo; and sisters, Betty Scott of Aledo, Ellen Cullins of Houston, and Carol McClendon of Baltimore, Maryland.
A memorial service was scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, September 29 at Birchman Baptist Church in Fort Worth.
In lieu of floral tributes, please consider a donation to the Pregnancy Help Center.
