Springtown man given 25 years for drugs, evading arrest and bail jumping

A 46-year-old Springtown man was sentenced to 25 years in prison Thursday after he pled guilty to possessing 120 grams of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, evading arrest with a vehicle, and two bail jumping cases.

The case began on July 4, 2015, when a Parker County Sheriff’s Deputy saw Nicky Lane Kelton run a red light on Highway 199 between Springtown and Azle, according to Assistant District Attorney Abby Placke, who prosecuted the case for the State.  After he briefly fled from the deputy, Kelton pulled into a driveway, crashed into a tree, got out, and threw a large plastic bag full of methamphetamine, which deputies later recovered.

“The bail jumping cases happened in March when Mr. Kelton came to court for his trial, answered docket call with the judge, found out he was going to trial, and fled from the courthouse,” Placke said.  “His sentence was enhanced due to prior felony convictions for possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of methamphetamine.”

“Mr. Kelton will be eligible for parole when he has served a quarter of his sentence,” said Assistant District Attorney Jeff Swain.  “Just because you’re eligible does not mean that you will be paroled.  That is up to the discretion of the Board of Pardons and Paroles.”

Kelton entered the plea and was sentenced by 415^th District Judge Graham Quisenberry.
