A Challenge to our Readers

The Aledo Economic Development Corporation has voted on final plans for the new Aledo Veterans Plaza.

As a matter of disclosure, I should tell you that I am a member of the Aledo EDC, and as such, am hoping that our readers will step up to help fund this worthy project.

The Veterans Plaza is appropriately the first real public structure that will be located inside the “circle” created by the recent road construction. Future projects include an amphitheater and other amenities.

By the way, that circle area doesn’t yet have a name. Any suggestions?

We have a story on page 1 (The Community News, June 24, 2016) about the Veterans Plaza, and here is my challenge to you: pick up your checkbook and send a contribution to help fund this endeavor. I am betting that readers of The Community News will be able to make a statement that we appreciate the city’s efforts in planning this memorial, and that we are willing to support it financially.

Total cost of the project is in the neighborhood of $87,000.

Any donations of $1,000 or more will be immortalized on a plaque at the monument. Donations of any size will be publicized in the pages of this newspaper in coming weeks.

You can support the project in one of two ways: simply write a check (any amount is appreciated, but you can also see donation levels on page 1) or order a brick to honor a veteran in your family or acquaintance.

I, and the City of Aledo, thank you in advance for your support!

To make a donation, send checks made out to Aledo EDC and designate Veterans Plaza. Mail checks to City of Aledo, P.O. Box 1, Aledo, TX 76008 or call City Hall at 817-441-7016.

To order bricks, visit www.bricksrus.com/order/honorbricks.

And tell them The Community News sent you!
