Aledo left-fielder Cam Caldwell ripped a pair of doubles and drove in three runs and pitcher Cody Bradford struck out seven as the Bearcats cruised past Granbury, 12-2, Wednesday night in a battle for second place in a District 8-5A contest at Aledo called by run rule in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The win elevates the Bearcats to 10-3 in district play, while Granbury drops to 9-4. The Bearcats will conclude the 8-5A slate at Cleburne on Friday. An Aledo win or a Granbury loss on Friday would secure second place in the district for the Bearcats.
Caldwell's two extra-base hits - along with Calloway Shands' three singles - led an 11-hit Aledo outing. Griffin Benson (two singles) and Michael Alvarez (single, double) also turned in multiple-hit games. Alvarez also drove in three runs.
Bradford was the winning pitcher, allowing two runs on four hits with three walks in six innings.
Granbury took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and held the lead before the 'Cats scored twice in the bottom of the third as Aledo took a lead it would not relinquish.
The Bearcats scored twice again in the fourth, and added four runs in the fifth to take an 8-1 lead. Alvarez and Caldwell each swatted a two-RBI double in the fifth frame.
Granbury scratched for a run in the top of the sixth, but the Bearcats came back in the bottom of the inning with four runs with the final and game-ending run coming off a hit from Shands.
