Ashkinos fans 10 as Bearcats blank Joshua, 9-0; Ladycats run past Crowley

Aledo starting pitcher Jacob Ashkinos allowed one hit in six innings while striking out 10 to lead the Bearcats to a 9-0 victory over Joshua Friday night in a District 8-5A baseball game at AHS.

The win raises the Bearcats' district mark to 6-2, while Joshua falls to 2-6.

Ashkinos walked just two batters, and Jacob Hickey pitched the seventh inning, allowing no runs on one hit with one walk and a strikeout.

The Bearcats led 4-0 after four innings.

In the opening frame a triple by Rhett Anderson drove in Hunter Rosson - who had reached on a single - before Anderson scored on a sacrifice fly by Griffin Benson to give the 'Cats a 2-0 lead.

Aledo scratched for a run in the third to increase the lead to 3-0. Michael Alvarez was hit by a pitch and scored when the next batter, Calloway Shands, tripled to right field.

The Bearcats added a run in the fourth inning. Ashkinos led off with a walk and was replaced on first base by courtesy runner Cam Caldwell. Caldwell advanced to second base on a fielder's choice and scored two batters later on a base hit from Matthew McCartney for a 4-0 advantage.

Aledo broke the game open with four runs in the fifth. The big hit in the frame was a three-RBI triple by Alvarez which drove in Anderson, Benson and Caldwell (running for Ashkinos). Alvarez scored on the play when an errant throw to third base sailed into the dugout as Alvarez was awarded home plate to extend the Bearcats' lead to 8-0.

The Bearcats closed the scoring with a run in the sixth. Benson stroked a two-out single and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. He scored after a single to left field by Nick Cheema.

Aledo will continue district play at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Burleson Centennial.

Ladycats 17, Crowley 0

In a game stopped after three innings on run rule, the Aledo Ladycats eased past Crowley, 17-0, Friday night in a District 8-5A softball game at Crowley.

The win raises the Ladycats' district record to 8-3, while Crowley falls to 2-9.

Hannah Andrews was the winning pitcher, and she also smashed a home run.

Kadyn Kirkpatrick went three-for-three with a single, double and triple to lead AHS at the plate.

The Ladycats will continue 8-5A action at 7 p.m. Tuesday at home against Burleson.
