From the City of Weatherford

The City of Weatherford will offer seven community open house sessions beginning April 7 to obtain citizen input for a new general plan.

The City of Weatherford General Plan will represent the vision future residents, property owners, business leaders and stakeholders want to achieve. It will serve as the "umbrella" plan that coordinates facility-specific plans and provide policy direction to be used by city council and staff in making decisions.

Led by the Planning Division, the open house sessions will introduce the planning team and general planning process, broaden community participation and incorporate interactive input. Feedback obtained from the open house sessions will be used to facilitate the on-going development of the general plan.

“The community open house sessions are vital to the overall general planning process,” said Director of Planning and Development Craig Farmer. “This can only be accomplished with the help of Weatherford residents as we look at all aspects of the city together and develop an appropriate plan that leads us into the future.”

Sessions will be structured to provide flexibility for participants in order to obtain effective input that advance project goals. A variety of activities will give participants many choices about how to share their ideas for Weatherford. The open house format means that participants can come whenever they want and stay as long as they choose.

“Community engagement is a major component in the development of city,” said City Manager Sharon Hayes. “We want to learn about the wants and needs of our citizens to properly build a plan that reflects a community vision. It’s no secret that our community is growing and we will develop a plan that will help us move into the future.”
