Aledo scored a goal in each half and goalkeeper Mackenzie Covington recorded a shutout as the Ladycats shut down Granbury, 2-0, Tuesday night in a girls' District 8-5A soccer match at Bearcat Stadium.

The win clinches second place for the Ladycats, who will close out the district season on March 15 at Cleburne.

Brooke Jones opened the scoring with 3:38 left in the first half on a goal that rolled in off the Granbury goalkeeper.

Aledo added an insurance goal in the second half when Cameron Huddleston scored her second goal in as many matches off a rebound with 28:59 to play.

Covington and the Ladycats defenders kept Granbury scoreless for the remainder of the match.

Granbury scored two goals in the first half and added another in the second to defeat the Bearcats, 3-1, in a boys' District 8-5A soccer match Tuesday night at Bearcat Stadium.

Trailing 2-0, the Bearcats cut the lead in half when Dejan Savic scored a goal from a difficult angle on the left side that scooted past the Granbury 'keeper to cut the visitors' lead to 2-1 with 5:22 left in the opening half.

Granbury added a goal in the second half and held off the Bearcats the rest of the way for the win.

The Bearcats have one more match remaining in district play - at Cleburne on March 15 - and need only a point or a Crowley loss or tie to secure second place.
