Brown throws 3-hitter, strikes out 11 to lead Bearcats to 5-0 win; Ladycats defeat Joshua, 9-5

Aledo junior pitcher Kannon Brown limited Burleson to three hits while striking out 11 to lead the Bearcats to a 5-0 victory over the Elks Tuesday night in a District 8-5A game at AHS.

The win raises the Bearcats' district mark to 4-1, while Burleson drops to 1-4.

Brown got into a jam early, allowing all three hits with a walk in the second inning. But Burleson got caught stealing for the second out, and right fielder Rhett Anderson threw a runner out at the plate for the third out to end the inning and keep the shutout alive.

From that point, Brown sent the Elks down in order in four of the final five frames, including the sixth and seventh innings.

The Bearcats gained a quick 2-0 lead when Hunter Rosson singled to center field to drive in Michael Alvarez, who had reached on a double.

But on the play the Elks' center fielder mishandled the ball, allowing Rosson to score for a 2-0 lead.

Aledo added two runs in the fifth for a 4-0 lead as Anderson scored on a wild pitch and Calloway Shands singled to drive in pinch runner Logan Bridges.

The Bearcats closed the scoring with a run in the sixth when Alvarez scored on a wild pitch.

Ladycats 9, Joshua 5

In a key District 8-5A softball game at Joshua, the Aledo Ladycats outlasted the Lady Owls, 9-5.

The win raises the Ladycats' district record to 6-2, while Joshua falls to 5-3.

Hannah Andrews was the winning pitcher for the Ladycats.
