From the City of Willow Park:

Willow Park City Administrator, Matt Shaffstall, has announced his departure from the city.

“I was presented with a new opportunity and it was just too good to pass up. I have enjoyed my time at Willow Park, but look forward to a new challenge,” said Shaffstall.

When Shaffstall began with the city in January 2013 he made the city’s finances a top priority. A complete overhaul of the city’s finances and budget process was performed to eliminate losses the city was suffering in the general, water, and wastewater funds. Shaffstall developed and implemented the city’s first written financial policies, cash flow analysis, and fleet replacement schedule. The improvements in the city’s finances have been recognized by the city’s improved credit rating, enhanced third party auditing, and GFOA distinguished budget presentation award.

Shaffstall oversaw unprecedented growth in the city over the last three and half years. The city’s tax base increased by over $100 million dollars. Shaffstall was an integral part in planning and completing projects like the Texas Health Resources Willow Park integrated medical campus, Willow Park Rehabilitation & Care, the Village at Crown Park apartments & townhomes, North Texas Retina Consultants building, Medical Associates building of Willow Park building, and the new Chicken Express.

Shaffstall stated he was “excited about the future of Willow Park,” having worked on upcoming projects like The Shops at Willow Park shopping center, Villages of Willow Park townhomes & shopping center, assisted living and memory care centers, Meadow Place neighborhood and Bluffs at Willow Park neighborhood.

During his three and half year tenure, Shaffstall has compiled an impressive list of accomplishments including updating the city’s comprehensive land use plan, upgrading the city’s zoning standards and building codes, implementing a prioritized capital improvement plan, and completing an impact & utility rate study.

Shaffstall’s last day in the office will be June 30, 2016, a farewell reception will be held at 10 a.m. at City Hall.
