Nine-run fourth propels Ladycats past Crowley, 11-0

Aledo junior pitcher Hannah Andrews winds up during the first innnig of the Ladycats' 11-0 victory over Crowley Monday night in a District 8-5A contest at the AHS softball field. Andrews threw a one-hitter and struck out four.

Aledo scored nine runs in the fourth inning to break open a close game and pitcher Hannah Andrews threw a one-hitter to lift the Ladycats past the Crowley Lady Eagles, 11-0, Monday night in a District 8-5A softball game that was called on run rule in the fifth frame.

The win raises the Ladycats’ district mark to 2-0.

Aledo will play two district games tomorrow (Tuesday) at different locations.

The Ladycats will host Everman at noon before traveling to Burleson High School to take on the Lady Elks at 5:30 p.m.

Andrews was almost perfect. She finished with one walk while striking out four in five innings. After allowing a bloop single to left field in the first inning, Andrews retired 11 consecutive batters before issuing her only walk in the fifth. She retired the next two batters to end the game.

“Hannah had everything working for her,” Ladycats head coach Heather Oakes said. “Her rise ball was outstanding and she was hitting her spots perfectly.”

The Ladycats led 1-0 when Gracie King, who had two hits for the game, scored on a fielder’s choice ground out by Andrews in the first frame.

Aledo added a run in the second for a two-run lead when Bailee Whitener, who reached on a double, scored on a double steal.

The Ladycats put the game away by exploding for nine runs in the fourth inning for an 11-0 cushion.

Whitener had the big hit in the inning when she slammed a three-run home run on a line drive over the left-field wall that also plated Megan Reynolds and Macy Hale. Brynn Hellman, King and Kaydyn Kirkpatrick each drove in a run in the inning. Whitener went three-for-three at the plate as she added a double and an infield single.

After issuing a one-out walk in the top of the fifth inning, Andrews struck out the next batter and induced a ground out to end the game.

Aledo junior varsity pitcher Billie Bateman fires a pitch during the Ladycats' 15-2 win over Crowley Tuesday at the AHS softball field.
