Historic log cabin park makes Good Morning Texas debut

Cabins built by Parker County pioneers

The historic Pioneer Cabin Park in Weatherford was featured in a special live segment on Good Morning Texas with Grammy award-winning artist Michael Martin Murphey making a special appearance.

GMT featured a live tour of the original log cabins at the Doss Heritage and Culture Center hosted by Anchor Paige Smith on April 23.

Doss Heritage Director of Development Lorraine Crutcher spoke to Smith live from the Pioneer Cabin Park about the history of the log cabins and how the founders of Parker County built these log cabins.

Crutcher spoke about the four log cabins that are showcased at Pioneer Cabin Park.

“We are taking a step back in time and we have got four original log cabins to showcase,” Crutcher said. “It's a testament to truly the grit that these pioneers had.”

Smith asked Crutcher how the public has responded to this attraction.

“The public first of all has loved it and word of this has spread like wildfire,” Crutcher said, referencing Murphey’s hit song “Wildfire.”

Murphey joined Smith during the live segment and had a few words to say about why he enjoys these log cabins.

“I lived in log cabins for a lot of years off and on,” Murphy said. “There's something organic about this, you know, but there's something scientific about it too.”

Murphey went on to explain how when someone lives in a wood-structure that's connected to the ground, there are electromagnetic waves that can feed the human body and make people feel better.

The log cabins were brought to the Doss through a series of fundraisers and donations. The original G.A. Holland cabins were combined and moved from Holland Lake Park through funding from the City of Weatherford and Jerry and Vickie Durant..

The Pioneer Log Cabin park located at the Doss Heritage and Culture Center is completely free to the public. For more information, visit https://dosscenter.org/pioneercabinpark/.
